Paris
Paris, the city of life, love, and light. From the Eiffel Tower to the Mona Lisa, from the bustling Champs Elysées to the winding streets of Montmartre, you'll find magic, romance, and history as you sip a café au lait, admire Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower, stroll along the Seine, the Left and Right Banks. You'll soon discover that Paris is enchanting almost everywhere, at any time, even "in the summer, when it sizzles' and 'in the winter, when it drizzles", as Cole Porter put it. Despite many attempts of decentralisation it is still Paris which decides how and what the country thinks, who makes politics and what the latest trends are. Every sixth French citizen lives in the capital, the economy and the cultural scene get their impulses from here.
The French capital hosts a multitude of stunning monuments, avenues, places and parks, over 160 museums, approx. 200 art galleries, 100 theaters, 650 cinemas and more than 10,000 restaurants. The amount of cultural events is enormous. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site were listed the Palace and Park of Fontainebleau in 1979, the Château Versailles in 1981 and the Left and Right Banks of the River Seine in 1991.

With its footbridges arching gracefully over a canal that feeds into the Seine River, the Canal Saint Martin area offers equal parts greenery, lyricism, and urban grit. Don't miss the Canal Saint-Martin for activities like strolling, picnics, offbeat shopping, and scenic biking. This unusually relaxed corner of Northeastern Paris is a hotspot for fashion-conscious bohos and parents in search of a little repose. It has also made famous appearances in movies like Amélie and Hôtel du Nord. |
